If Windows XP is Running Slow You Can Make Your Slow Computer Run Fast Again by James Randell

Personal computers are like cars, as time pass by performance gets poorer. It is a common problem that a PC slows over time. There are several reasons for this: too many programs running at the same time, too many software using up too many resources, and a fragmented disk. These problems are very common and if you suffer from windows XP running slow you can fix it.

There are several ways to fix the above mentioned problems. The fixes will make your PC run like new again.

#1 Viruses, spyware and adware are malicious programs that can destroy your software and windows itself. These malicious programs can also slow down your PC. A virus can destroy programs needed by your PC to run normally. Spyware steals information from your PC and at the same time it can also slow down your PC.

Always see to it that you have installed antivirus, anti-spyware and anti-adware programs and have them updated on a regular basis. There are several online sites that offer free downloads to prevent these malicious programs. One such program is called malwarebytes and this can help stop windows XP running slow.

#2 Your disk needs space in order to run smoothly. By freeing up some space from your disk, you will be able to speed up your PC a bit. Delete all file in the temporary internet files folder, recycle bin, clear shortcuts and icons from your desktop that you do not use and remove programs you do not use.

#3 Over time your disk can also get fragmented. Fragmentation causes your computer to slow down because it takes windows much longer to find a files location. Fortunately, your PC has a built in disk defragmenter. You can run this program by clicking "Start" - "All Programs" - "Accessories" - "System Tools" - "Disk Defragmenter". You will now have the option to choose which drives or partition you want to defragment. This action may take you some time so it is advised to do this on a regular basis so as to avoid further fragmentation and to speed up your windows XP computer.

#4 Another common cause of PC slow down is a corrupt registry. The registry is a very important component of computers running on Windows platform. When this gets corrupted your PC will slowdown, or worse, not start at all. Fixing the registry is easy with the use of a registry cleaner.

Instead of just going out and buying one you can download a free scanner which will find all the errors and report them to you before and let you know if there are any errors to get rid of. Doing this can save you having to spend a lot of money on a technician who will probably run the same steps outlined here and charge you a lot of money to fix windows Xp running slow.
